Poll shows parents in favour of caning

HALF of parents questioned in a poll published yesterday want the return of the cane and of a selective grammar school system.
Two thirds believed discipline had become worse over the past 10 years, with 51 per cent saying that a return to corporal punishment, banned 14 years ago in state schools, would help. This comes as teacher unions warn that schools are being forced to teach violent and dangerous pupils.
